This Southern novel is a must for collectors of Civil War books and novels. "Macaria" by Augusta Jane Evans was published in 1864 during the Civil War. Augusta Jane Evans was an American author of Southern literature and a staunch Southern patriot. Many copies of this novel were burned by the Union Army as it was considered Confederate propaganda. Miss Evans claimed to have penned the novel under candlelight while nursing wounded Confederate soldiers.
This hardback book has a beautiful illustrated cover, but does have some condition issues. It is over 100 years old, so some wear and tear is expected. The spine is torn away along the inside front and may have lost the first few pages of the book that contained the title page and copyright info. This book begins right with Chapter 1. The price does consider condition.
